About Us

Response Community Projects

The object for which RESPONSE COMMUNITY PROJECTS is established are to promote any charitable purpose for the benefit of the community within the area of Earls Court in the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea.

In particular to promote, maintain, improve and advance education and in the interest of social welfare to provide and assist in the provision of facilities for recreation or other leisure time occupation with the object of improving the conditions of life of the persons for whom such facilities by reason of their youth, age, infirmity or disablement, poverty or social and economic circumstances, provided that, nonetheless, such facilities shall be available to the members of the public at large.

Response Community Projects is a charity occupying a shop in the Old Brompton Road, close to Earls Court Road and a company limited by guarantee, run by a volunteer management committee who are its trustees (the Council of Management - COM). It is elected by its members at the Annual General Meeting.

Response's provision and activities are open to all comers and to all those who live or work in or have some other connection with Earls Court. The Equal Opportunity policy of Response is implemented so that all sections of the community may feel that the Centre is theirs. To ensure access for everyone, all these activities are either provided free or for a minimal charge.

Nowadays, around 430 individuals a week use Response premises for some reason or other which must make it one of the busiest and best used community resources in the borough and this number is set to increase.

The shop and Internet cafe are open to the public Monday - Friday. The Response Computer & Homework Club operates on weekdays in the early evenings. The meeting room is in use for local groups later every evening as well as on Saturdays and Sundays. The Computer room is available at all times of the day, when not in use for specific computer courses.

Response Community Centre is disable assessable and it has a designated disabled parking bay outside at the front entrance of its premises. The conversion of the premises ensures that disabled people and in particular older people, who cannot negotiate stairs, can use computers and attend courses and meetings held there.

We organise a variety of health and leisure activities for the diverse community of Earls Court and surrounding area. In line with the ethos of the Equal Access Project, all of our activities are open to everyone, although some will inevitably tend towards particular client groups. We are always open to suggestions and encourage our users to take an active role in planning and developing new projects.

Response Community Projects offer low cost services and programmes to the local community. It has a long established record for promoting community activities of various kinds and of acting as a social, cultural and educational resource centre. It is the only disabled access community centre in the south of the borough. Everyone is welcome.
